On Saturday, May 6, a diverse grouping of Detroit area
pro-choice activists came together to launch the Detroit Action Network
For Reproductive Rights (DANFORR), a coalition of individuals and
groups committed to carrying out a struggle-oriented approach to
defending and expanding women’s reproductive rights nationally and here
in Michigan. Participants included a
representative from Planned Parenthood and an administrator of a Livonia reproductive services/abortion provider
clinic.
Initial action proposals adopted at the
founding DANFORR meeting include:
FUNDRAISING
RALLY IN SOLIDARITY WITH CECELIA FIRE THUNDER &
THE
WOMEN OF SOUTH DAKOTA Fire Thunder of the Oglala Sioux nation is
leader of South Dakota’s historic Pine Ridge Reservation and
co-chair of the South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families. This group is petitioning to put before voters
in the November election the law which Gov. Mike Rounds recently
signed, outlawing all abortions in South Dakota except to save the life
of the pregnant woman (in hope of overturning the law).
Fire Thunder has announced plans to build a clinic on the Pine
Ridge Reservation which would circumvent the new law (the reservation
is sovereign land that does not have to abide by state laws). We want to support Fire Thunder and the women
of South
Dakota
by helping to raise funds to build the new clinic.
Planning for this event has just started – come to
the May 19th Organizing Meeting of DANFORR to get involved.

to choice!

May 19th Organizing Meeting of DANFORR to get involved.
